Astro Bears Party is one of those games that anyone can instantly pick up and have a laugh with. The game is really impressively designed with solid gameplay and lovely aesthetics – in fact, the only fault I can find is that I wish there were more modes to play. You won’t be playing it for hours on end, but that’s not the point – grab some friends, grab a Joy-Con, and have a great time.

It’s held back by its repetition – the music, the modes; even the four bears get old after a while. Bust this out at a party for 30 minutes of fun, but don’t expect your friends to beg for more at the next get together.

Astro Bears Party relies more on the experiences that can be made by everyone playing than raw content, as not much is in wait beyond the base concept. The more players, the more stressful the situation. Visually, the game has very clean 3D models of bears that have a simple, cute design. It really is a fantastic pick–up-and-play party game, and while it doesn’t aspire to be much more than a simplistic affair, it’s fun for what it is.

On its own, Astro Bears Party doesn’t have a huge amount to offer, but everything above is still extremely solid. Ideally, I’d see this game being pulled out alongside a bunch of other smaller multiplayer games, like Astro Duel Deluxe, or the bigger hits like Mario Kart. For the price, it does the job, but I honestly just wish there was more on offer. Rating: 3/5 - Sharp art design - Good at what it does - Not a lot of gameplay here - No variety to arenas at all - October 3, 2017 at 9:23 am Looks cheap and ugly as heck.

Not so hot alone, Astro Bears Party comes alive with friends only to quickly run out of steam.

Astro Bears Party has a solid concept yet it fails to deliver any long-lasting good times. In other words, it's like swatting a delicious-looking salmon from the river only to realise that it doesn't have much meat on its bones.

And, that’s it. It is a shame to see Astro Bears Party score success with its manic gameplay, huggable characters, and minimalistic art direction, only to leave players without enough of a reason to return to orbit their nearest planetoid. It suits Nintendo Switch with its local multiplayer, but a lack of variety makes it hard to recommend – especially with the Nintendo eShop becoming an ever-increasingly competitive place to be.
