Overview

BioShock Infinite is the third game in the BioShock series. It is not a direct sequel/prequel to any of the previous BioShock games but takes place in an entirely different setting, although it shares similar features, gameplay and concepts with the previous games. BioShock Infinite features a range of environments that force the player to adapt, with different weapons and strategies for each situation. Interior spaces feature close combat with enemies, but unlike previous games set in Rapture, the setting of Infinite contains open spaces with emphasis on sniping and ranged combat against as many as fifteen enemies at once.

On PC, BioShock Infinite absolutely shines. The use of the venerable Unreal Engine might surprise you, considering just how stunning this game looks, especially with the high-res textures exclusive to the PC version that balloon the game to about 15GB in size. You'll know where your hard drive space went, though, as the supreme texture resolution helps deliver the wonderful art, design, and architecture that Irrational Games has been putting together over the last half-decade.

BioShock Infinite doesn't blur the lines between your reality and the game's to quite the same extent as its predecessor, but it's a more complete and polished story, and that's the thing you'll remember. At one point a central character remarks, "Perception without comprehension is a dangerous combination," and it sticks in your mind; this is a story of how the wrong idea can really go a long way. You can still expect to be sat around tables with your friends arguing about it, too - how did that really happen, how does that work with that - and whether you saw particular moments coming.
