Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a fun and really well-polished game featuring quite a few mechanics from other platforms of the past. Although the game has a few minor bugs, Purple Ray Studios is actively sending patches and updates for a smoother experience. The story is fun and gripping, with the voice acting of One, Zero, and Kernel keeping you entertained for hours, not to mention the amount of exploring you can do in your free time.

Boti: Byteland Overclocked isn’t a massive grand adventure but a short and sweet romp through more concise levels. You should treat it more like the 3D stages of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time than an open sprawl like Super Mario Odyssey. Unlike those single-player games, Boti: Byteland Overclocked is very much balanced around two-player functionality. If you do have a friend to play with, Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a great purchase.

Ultimately I’m a bit torn on Boti: Byteland Overclocked. On one hand, it’s gorgeous and charming, but it’s gameplay and the myriad of bugs I ran into really soured the experience. On the other hand, Boti is still fun to play and I wouldn’t mind going back for the collectibles and a hundred percent run in the future. ∎ Boti Byteland Overclocked is slated for a Windows PC release on Steam on the 15th of September.
