Overview

Command & Conquer: The First Decade is a compilation of the Command & Conquer series' games published from 1995 to 2003, all bundled into one DVD and updated to run optimally on Windows XP. It was released on February 7, 2006 and sold for the price of one retail game. Also included in the compilation was a bonus DVD which took a look behind the scenes of the successful franchise, including interviews with producers, old concept art, various soundbites, as well as a montage of the winning fan videos of the "Are You The Biggest C&C Fan?" competition held prior to the compilation's release. Other items included in the compilation was an A3 (A4 in newer boxes) poster with high-quality C&C renders on both sides, one of which has been confirmed to be a teaser image for EA's Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, as well as a 65-page manual that only includes unit descriptions and hotkeys for each of the included games.

All the storylines were so creatively done it’s a wonder that Westwood or EA has not jumped on the bandwagon and gone Hollywood. I could see how some of the titles could certainly be spun to be a box office hit.

C&C: The First Decade will have all C&C aficionados waxing nostalgic for the good old days of GDI versus Nod, Kane and Yuri, and of course, Tanya, the sexiest female gaming character next to Lady Croft.

The occasional crashes in the older ones are a little annoying, but they’re still quite playable, and with all their expansions you could easily spend months playing against the AI alone.

A lot of what made Command & Conquer great comes through in this package, but a few rough edges make it all seem a little sloppy. The Good - Brings 12 different C&C; products together onto one disc - Games appear and play almost exactly how you remember them - Lots of then-groundbreaking FMV is included throughout the series - Kane is still amazing. The Bad - Minor bugs and omissions here and there take away from the early games' impact - Not enough Kane (never enough Kane, really) - Bonus DVD isn't terribly insightful or interesting. Back in 1992, PC developer Westwood Studios released a PC game called Dune II.

It shows its age, and some titles are better then others, but all the cinemas are intact and some games never get boring.
