A charming cast of characters, engaging narrative, and enjoyable puzzles make Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit stand side-by-side with some of the best games in the genre.

Crowns and Pawns is a high-quality game that impresses in many ways by embracing the best of classic point-and-click design. There is even replay value, as different decisions lead to different puzzles—something noteworthy, indeed. Interesting reading and easter eggs to other genre classics are the icing on the memorable cake. Don’t let some user interface issues detract, as this is an adventure worth seeing through to the end. It leaves you wanting more, so here’s hoping for a longer sequel with superior closure. Review: Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit (Nintendo Switch) Very Good Crowns and Pawns is a high-quality game that impresses in many ways by embracing the best of classic point-and-click design.

Spending about six to eight hours in this version of Lithuania is most certainly a trip worth having, even if it is clear that Tag of Joy is setting things up for a sequel. While the narrative rushes through the endgame in a somewhat haphazard fashion, it does not necessarily undo the great work that has paved the way forward to its conclusion. An intriguing tale of adventure that does not necessarily reinvent the wheel, Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit pays homage to its predecessors while creating a modern experience that should appeal to fans, young or old.

A mix of old-school point-and-click adventure beats mix with modern productions values and polish to make for a good time There’s no doubt that, perhaps a bit surprisingly, that point-and-click adventures are one of the deepest subgenres represented on the Switch, resurgent after nearly disappearing at several points.
