Overview

An authentic full motion video game from Kazutaka Kodaka, creator of the Danganronpa. Is this a game or a movie? The story reacts to your choices. The story takes place in a hotel. The main character, Makoto Karaki (Kanata Hongo) is a wanted serial killer. However, he has lost all of his memories. Under such circumstances, when he dies, he has a mysterious ability to “time leap” and return to the past. As he’s being chased like a criminal, who can he trust? Who should he be wary of? What is his true identity? The man searches to find the truth as he repeats decisions and death.

Death Come True is a great FMV game from a creative mind. The characters and choices you make are really interesting, and everything is wrapped up quite nicely. I don't think players will have anything to return to in the long term, but the experience is enjoyable while it lasts. Hop into a strange hotel and let the journey take care of you.

Death Come True is an experimental piece of media that tells an incredibly intricate tale, which is only enhanced by the way it chooses to tell its story. The game aims to bridge the gap between visual novels, games, and film so that fans of all three forms of media could enjoy it. The developers did their best with the budget they had access to, but sadly, that came at the cost at some elements being untranslated and a shortened runtime. Still, this is a great experience and well worth it for any adventure lover. This post may contain Amazon affiliate links.

I’ve loved the resurgence of FMV games in recent years. It’s really refreshing to play a quality game with engaging story that can be enjoyed and completed in just a few hours. If you like ‘choose your own adventure’ style stories and tales full of twists and turns, I highly recommend you check out Death Come True. For the price of going to the movies, you can enjoy Kazutaka Kodaka’s over and over from your own home. Death Comes True certainly has me excited to see what will come next from TooKyo Games, as we know they have a number of projects in the works.

Death Come True is an interesting interactive cinematic FMV experience which fans of the genre will love. Running at around three hours per-playthrough, it’s much longer than similar games whilst offering you a reason to replay the entire game in order to unlock the other pathways and the second ‘ending’ (as you can’t reload once you’ve made your choice). The acting is of a very high standard with customary moments of sheer madness and wacky interactions based upon the options you choose, once again enticing you to explore every option you’re given – even if some are there merely for show and don’t alter anything. Overall, the game isn’t perfect due to it feeling far too linear and simplistic when placed alongside other interactive cinematic FMV experiences, but it gave me around six hours of entertainment and a number of ‘laugh out loud’ moments as I went against the point of the game and purposely tried to get myself killed at every chance.
