Enotria: The Last Song was just the summer holiday away from the more usual Soulslike games. It’s bright setting, great characterisation and great mechanics make a really fun, and challenging Soulslike experience. As someone who is involved in amateur theatre, I particualrly loved the focus on actors, the arts, and the framing of staging and stagecraft. It was a breath of fresh summery air on a playbill often filled withfamiliar but musty and dank acts. Magnifico! Enotria: The Last Song was reviewed on PC, many thanks to Jyamma Games for providing us with a code. Enotria: The Last Song is available on PC, and PS5.

I don’t necessarily think Enotria: The Last Song is a bad game, because it’s not. It has issues for sure, but they seem more attributable to the developers not having a ton of experience with the genre than anything else. There’s definitely good bones here with some solid ideas, but it definitely could benefit from a sequel that improves upon the issues within the current release. It runs at a relatively stable 60 frames per second on my somewhat outdated PC hardware all the while maxed out visually at 1440p, so I’m quite impressed by the performance.

Enotria: The Last Song’s delightful setting, theatre-infused narrative, and mechanical depth help it stand out from the very crowded Soulslike landscape. On the flip side, that depth translates to sometimes poorly explained, unnecessary-feeling complications. Strip all that away, and Enotria: The Last Song is still an enjoyable action RPG that should appeal to almost every fan of the genre.
