Overview

Fall of Light takes the player into a dark world, where an old warrior leads his daughter towards the last remnants of sunlight. Only together will they be strong enough to defeat the enemies born from the Shadow. The lack of light in combination with stylized graphics underline the game’s grim atmosphere, both in the world above and the one below – the birthplace of the evil threatening to end the Era of Men. The developers acknowledge their sources of inspiration in two other successful titles, Dark Souls and ICO. And as distinct from one another as they are, combining elements from each one has brought about a story quite deep and believable. The eternal battle between light and dark, good and evil, seems that it could finally be decided throughout the storyline of Fall of Light, despite the characters’ efforts to postpone the inevitable end. But a deeper truth is yet to be discovered...

Fall of Light doesn’t quite live up to its inspirational material, but even so, this is well worth your time and attention if you’re a fan of the core “Dark Souls” formula. There’s heaps of weapon, enemy and environmental variation across the board, all of which is tethered to an interesting world that’s full of lore and mystery. Camera annoyances to the side, Fall of Light is one that fans of the genre will thoroughly enjoy. This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox One.

While problems with combat and the camera can make Fall of Light harder than it needs to be, the pull is there to push through and see what comes next.

Fall of Light features multiple weapons and fighting stances, but these features just did not feel different enough to me to combat all the problems that I experienced. If you are looking for a Dark Souls experience, I would wait and spend the money when the remaster comes out rather than subject yourself to Fall of Light.
