Overview

In Golem, you play as an adventurous kid who has been seriously injured. You are stuck at home in your bed, dreaming of exploring the outside world. You gradually develop the power to create and control stone creatures known as golems. You see through their eyes, direct their movements, and use them to explore beyond the confines of your room. At first, you can only build small doll-sized golems to send around your room… but eventually your powers will grow, until you can send enormous 15-foot tall giants to explore an ancient abandoned city.

When it comes to both its cinematic and gameplay elements, Golem manages to remain an enjoyable and engaging tale throughout.Golem gameplay video → BoxVR Review PlayStation 4 ★★★★☆ Getting your body moving is important so if you're a real couch potato, BoxVR will whip your lazy butt into shape. Although I mostly stick to my elliptical machine for daily exercise, I used to play Gold's Gym: Cardio Workout for Wii all the time.

It has some real navigation issues, but once you get past those, this is a title that anyone with a PSVR helmet should be checking out. After all, there's no better use for virtual reality than to peer through the eyes of a giant Golem and smash things to smithereens. A PlayStation 4 review copy of Golem was provided to TheGamer for this review.

The voice acting is top-notch, the graphics are sharp and clear, and the artwork and character designs are pretty cool. The challenge of the battles feel fair and keep you coming back for more, as does the story. The 3D positional audio is fantastic and the music done by Halo and Destiny composer, Martin O’Donnell, heightens the emotional spectrum of the game from the battles to the quiet introspective beats. If you want to play something with a slower pace and dig fantasy coming of age stories, there’s enough here to make mastering the control scheme worth it.
