Overview

Hellpoint is a dark sci fi action RPG set in the aftermath of a massive quantum cataclysm. Every living being quickly lost their mind as their memories and bodies were merged with alternate versions of themselves from parallel universes. The accident also attracted entities of immense power that should have been left alone, in the depth of other dimensions.

Hellpoint makes no bones about it, It’s a Dark Souls game through and through. It is also a very good Dark Souls type game with a really good setting and satisfying combat, it’s hard not to fall in love with it all. Funny thing is it’s so like Dark Souls it even has the same performance issues of slowdown and choppiness, How’s that for the dedication! Seriously though its a great game and the world reminded me somewhat of a Dead Space game, eerie lighting, out in space facing off against who knows what and just trying to survive.

All in all, the game is challenging, beautiful, horrifying, exciting, and exhilarating in all the ways players want from a game of this genre. Once again, everything just works.

Cosmic gods, interdimensional entities and space stations orbiting black holes. Sounds like my kinda sci-fi party, if I spent the night with a ‘kick me’ sign on my back as well.

Hellpoint is, mechanically, a typical game in the Dark Souls genre. However, the sci-fi theme is really what separates it from other games. Although the upgrade systems aren’t always intuitive and the game has a few other minor issues, the unique enemies and story make up for it. Hellpoint is a hard game but well worth the struggle. Hellpoint is available now on Xbox One and PC.

Hellpoint is a stellar souls-like, so much, in fact, that I don’t believe it to be an inspired child of its parent games. It can stand alongside titles like Dark Souls as an equal, matching its quality pound for pound. If the technical issues can be put to bed in a post-release patch, that fact will be cemented within the game’s legacy.
