Horizon Chase Turbo – Senna Forever is, by all means, an unusual DLC. Released a whopping 3 years after the base game, long after the core support of the game seemed to be over, it offers a level of content, detail, and fun that practically dwarves the already fun original title’s ambitions. It’s a respectful and passionate tribute to one of the motorsports’ greatest heroes that left us way too soon, mimicking the style of arcade racers that were in vogue in the late ’80s and early ’90s, which is when Ayrton Senna’s career peaked.

I was surprised by how well the F-1 cars fit into the overall aesthetic of Horizon Chase Turbo. Courses are still colorful and gorgeous, and the music is just as bombastic as ever—the new tracks aren’t so much brand new as remixes of existing tracks, but I didn’t care. This game’s soundtrack is just so phenomenal. Senna Forever is a great addition to Horizon Chase Turbo, and I was happy to have an excuse to jump back in. And better yet, I learned a lot about one of the sport’s greatest players.

The Senna Forever DLC is a fitting tribute to the Formula One Legend, and the fact that it complements the era with the retro visuals and gameplay of Horizon Chase Turbo, makes that much sweeter. If you want a fun, simple racing game to play with a bunch of friends or even with a younger family, or if you’re a fan of Ayrton Senna and want to revisit some of his classic races – albeit in an arcade style – then you can’t go past Horizon Chase Turbo and the Senna Forever add-on.

If you own Horizon Chase Turbo, the choice whether or not to pick up the Senna Forever expansion should be a no-brainer. Especially so if you’re a fan of Ayrton Senna or F1 in general. The expansion largely offers more of the same, but that’s not much of an issue when the core gameplay is so enjoyable. And with each purchase helping to support Senna’s charity, there’s even more incentive.
