Hue is a stark puzzle platformer where you shift the hue of the world, creating rifts when colours collide. In this world, everyone sees in grayscale. Anne, a researcher specialising in colour theory, has created a mysterious ring which grants the ability to perceive and alter colour. After a fracas with her research assistant, she disappears into a coloured void. You play as Hue, Anne’s son, as he discovers fragments of his missing mother’s research and learns to perceive and alter colour for the first time.

Hue is an excellent puzzle platformer, and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in the genre. The vibrant look and smooth difficulty curve make it a pleasure to play; coupling that with an intriguing, albeit light, narrative and an excellent soundtrack makes for an experience that is difficult to criticise. Indeed, I had no qualms about immediately starting a second playthrough to search for collectables that I has missed or overlooked, something that can be said about very few other games of this genre. This is a highly impressive game.

Hue takes an incredibly simple premise and turns it into a unique, fun, and challenging game that I’m still thinking of days later. To be completely honest, Hue wasn’t on my radar at all, but I’m incredibly grateful it fell into my lap by chance, as I’m glad I got to experience it from beginning to finish.

Hue is a wonderful, challenging puzzle platformer that I would recommend to anybody. Despite its short length, your enjoyment of the puzzles and the unraveling of the story will make your purchase worthwhile. A review code was provided by the publisher I love all kinds of video games.

Hue is easily one of the best additions to the genre in a very long time. Whereas many games struggle to bring their own personality to the platforming puzzle genre, Hue effortlessly succeeds with an interesting concept complemented by a fitting and lovely art style, asking deep philosophical questions through incredibly well-written and superbly voiced narration that brings about some motherly traits.

While it may not be the most difficult, or lengthy, title ever, Hue is a deft combination of nimble platforming and shrewd puzzle solving. Don't sleep on this colorful gem.
