While you’ll probably want to mute Pilot Sports’ annoying soundtrack, there’s plenty of fun to be had with this surprisingly challenging and varied retro flying game.

Pilot Sports is a good bit of fun, but could have featured more. At $19.99, you’re still getting a decent deal here, but I’d happily pay that bit extra for more content (a larger world, online multiplayer and leader boards). Achievement hunters will likely lap up Pilot Sports, as just there are just 14 to round up for the full 1000G. Happy flying! This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox One.

Pilot Sports just comes off as a poor man’s attempt at trying to recreate Pilotwings. It simply does not have the same level of polish. Thus, the old saying, “An original is better than a copy,” definitely applies here. If anything, playing this made me want Nintendo to release a new authentic Pilotwings even more than before. But in the meantime, you’re much better off looking at past entries in that franchise rather than playing this. If you absolutely must get a Pilotwings-esque fix on Switch, then I’d certainly consider waiting to see if Pilot Sports gets a price reduction to under $10, because its current $34.99 price tag is simply not justifiable. A review code was provided by the publisher. Having been introduced to video games at the age of 3 via a Nintendo 64, A.K has grown up in the culture.

With some fine-tuning, Pilot Sports could be an easily recommendable challenge-based flight game. As it is, it ends up feeling a little rough around the edges but there's still some fun to be had, especially within the multiplayer mode.Pilot Sports gameplay video → Wenjia Review Xbox One ★★★☆☆ Sometimes, a good way to bond is through overcoming a challenge.

Pilot Sports has a fair amount of content to it, with bright visuals and somewhat stiff controls at times. Honestly, more of a focus on just the plane would have been better.

If you love games like this your best bet is to save your money and pour it into buying extra copies of Pilotwings Resort in the hopes that a resurgence in sales will lead Nintendo back into the genre.

Pilot Sports came in with a great idea… relive an old classic but it fell short to hit its mark. For a current generation game, it doesn’t feel worth the outrageous price of $29.99 for the PlayStation 4 version. It borrowed so much on nostalgia to pick itself up that it never really tried to stray away from the original and bring something new to the table with more aircrafts to learn and master. The difficulty hurdles during singleplayer progression, however, give for a rewarding feeling as you set your eyes to be the top of the leaderboards yet it comes off as more of a “buzz off” to newcomers and casual players alike.

Whether the developers were aiming too high with their comparisons with Pilotwings I can’t say, but the game stands as an example of what happens when you take a good idea and don’t give it enough care and attention. With three mates it is fun, but as a single player experience its ultimately disappointing.
