The review states that Loop8: Summer of Gods had a lot of potential but is a disappointment. It cannot be recommended unless the reader is okay with boring gameplay.

Though I had mixed feelings about Protodroid DeLTA at first, the game quickly grew on me as all the brilliant little pieces of its design fell together. Lovers of platformers and fans of Mega Man are sure to find something to enjoy in this charming indie title. Try Hard Guides was provided with a PC review copy of this game.

Protodroid DeLTA is a slick action-platformer that is a whole lotta fun to play through thanks to some great level design and slick combat. And sure, it might wear its Mega Man inspirations like a big badge of honour, but it also does plenty of its own little things to show that it hasn’t borrowed EVERYTHING from Capcom’s beloved series. It’s just a really cool experience, and one that reminded me a lot of the joyful early days of 3D platforming (and I mean that in the best way possible).

Although it has a lot of rough spots such as uninspired bosses, “basic” visuals to certain effects and geometry, Protodroid DeLTA outshines in the gameplay department. It feels wonderful to control, it’s extremely fun to play and features some great level design. It might not be the Mega Man inspired platformer that some people were expecting, but it sure is one heck of a great game. Just be careful to not end up playing the same level over and over again to find out the best route. Or do and enjoy the ride – I sure did.

Despite a fairly negative-sounding review, Protodroid DeLTA is a fun game. It manages to capture most of the magic of action-platformers of the era, Mega Man X in particular but also the Sonic Adventure games to an extent, with fun, dynamic combat and tons of platforming and a bright, colourful look. Unfortunately, while the gameplay has its moments, it’s also not quite as precise and polished as such a game would require, and with how prevalent and difficult the platforming sequences become, this is certainly a big issue. Nostalgic gamers and people dying to play something resemblign a new 3D Mega Man are still bound to have a pretty fun time with Protodroid DeLTA, and here’s hoping that the title can be successful enough to warrant a sequel that fixes some of its shortcomings.
