Wave 2: Side Order is a new single-player campaign mode[3] featuring an Octoling. The campaign is set in Inkopolis Square, though instead of being filled with color as in Splatoon 2, it is now all white and more modern-looking. Branches of presumed dead or bleached coral can be seen throughout the plaza. Bits of snow-like specks can also be seen floating in the distance. Deca Tower looks entirely different, resembling a normal building more than a battle tower. The Great Zapfish is also absent from its resting spot. Still images of Off the Hook are interspersed throughout the Wave's trailer, suggesting they will play a major role in the campaign. This suggestion would align with information revealed in the August 2022 Splatoon 3 Direct, which suggested they would be featured in upcoming DLC. The Direct states Wave 2 will arrive in the future, separate from Wave 1. The eShop listing's description says it is planned for release by 31 December 2024,[4] though this is likely just to be a placeholder date.

My only complaint with Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass Wave 2 – Side Order is that it could’ve used a bit more variety for a mode that requires you to replay it so much to get the most out of it. While it may not hit the set-piece highs as past game expansions, this is exactly what I want to see from Splatoon as a series, and I hope it is included in the next game as an optional mode. The team nailed everything here, and if it ever does get more added through free updates, it will be perfect. -Mikhail Madnani SwitchArcade Score: 4.5/5 qomp2 ($19.99) The reinvigorated Atari seems to be focusing on a few different fronts as it attempts to build itself back up from the state it has been in for a while.

Although the first wave of the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass was a bit underwhelming, the release of the second wave, Side Order, makes the DLC an absolute must-have for Splatoon fans and those who are fond of the roguelite genre. The Splatoon IP has always primarily focused on online multiplayer, but Side Order further proves that its single-player offerings shouldn’t be overlooked either. If you already own Splatoon 3, getting the Expansion Pass is a no-brainer for the price, but if you don’t, now is a better time than ever to join in on the splatastic fun. Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass is available now via the Nintendo eShop.

Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC puts players into a rogue-like single-player campaign as Agent 8, tasked with rescuing Marina and her friends from the mysterious Deca Tower. Each run through the tower offers a new set of challenges and opportunities to customize abilities and weapons, leading to multiple playthroughs and strategic planning. While some levels may prove more challenging, especially with unfamiliar weapons, Side Order offers a refreshing departure from multiplayer chaos with its replay value and different gameplay options.
