CRITIK
Split/Second is an intense action racing game set within a reality television show. Competitors will vie to be the first to the finish line in a made-for-TV city set rigged to blow with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Players in Split/Second don’t just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track, but can also trigger devastating events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use pinpoint timing to obliterate huge structures and towering TV set pieces to tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.

Though initially it tends to be a bit on the easy side and learning when and where to use which power-plays is a case of trial and error, it’s not long before the game escalates into a nail-bitingly intense experience.

Split/Second is an exciting, fast paced arcade racer that is ever bit as enjoyable as other franchises in this genre. The addition of explosions and route changes offers up some new and exciting gameplay in a genre which seems to stay close to its tried and tested routes (pun intended).

For the most part Split/Second: Velocity hits the mark like a cargo ship through your windscreen. It’s extreme fun and effortless to get into, like the best weekend party games should be, but may struggle over the longer term. There are less than thirty cars and the courses, while very well designed, twist and turn through the same limited number of locations.
