Stranded Deep
Stranded Deep will feature a unique physically-based crafting and building system. Great care has been taken to minimize, even eliminate, most of the in-game UI. You will be able to craft a variety of crude weapons and tools such as spears, axes, knives, bows and even crossbows. And then there’s an assortment of everyday items to figure out how to craft. You will also be able to build a diverse range of unique shelters and rafts.

Stranded Deep represents a survival videogame in one of the purest forms: desert island life. It is certainly not a difficult concept to conceive, but Stranded Deep is an excellent example of a notion done countless times in other media. There is an open-endedness to it for those looking for a new way of life but there is also a primary objective for those wanting to escape.

Stranded Deep has borderline wretched controls and has some crafting and survival mechanics that make the boy scout and backpacker in me furrow my brow in confusion. That being said, the game is fun and exceptionally rewarding! When you finally build something that you have been working towards or find a way to make your life a little easier, it can feel like Christmas came early.

Stranded Deep is a beautifully crafted and engaging experience for anyone who is a fan of survival games. It may not provide the same amount of replayability that games like Rust have, but the crafting and exploring mechanics are solid and fun to use. The first time that players climb out of their raft to step onto their new island home or fight off a group of hungry sharks, they will be shown how intense and rewarding Stranded Deep truly is. Next: Rust: How to Utilize Electricity in Your Base Stranded Deep can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Despite its questionable development status, Stranded Deep has a lot to offer. I’d welcome further development, but even in its current incarnation, this compelling survival sim is more than worth diving into.
