Super Meat Boy Forever
Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have grown as a couple since 2010. It seems like only yesterday the two love birds were escaping from an exploding laboratory in the sky. Now it’s the current year, and they’ve welcomed their daughter Nugget into the world. Their peaceful days enjoying life as a family came to an abrupt end when Dr. Fetus beat the snot out of them with a rusty shovel, and kidnapped Nugget! Now it’s up to Meat Boy and Bandage Girl to rescue their daughter from a lunatic fetus in a jar that can only be described as an incel version of Tony Stark. - Super Meat Boy Forever is the sequel to Super Meat Boy! This is a new experience that eclipses the original. Don’t stare directly at it unless you still have your eclipse glasses. - 7200 individually handcrafted levels combine dynamically to give you a new challenge every single time you play. Seven thousand two hundred levels. They said we couldn’t do it, but we did. Who’s they? Don’t ask. They don’t like it when you ask. - It’s hard, but fair. Nothing in life worth having comes easy. You play Super Meat Boy Forever (SMBF) with 2 buttons: jump + punch, and slide. That’s it. But don’t be mistaken, SIMPLE DOESN’T MEAN EASY. The sequel can be considered even harder than the first game of the series. The biggest change is that SMBF is an AUTO-RUNNER, in other words, Meat Boy runs non-stop. To keep him alive, timing and precision are key. There are 6 chapters, dozens of levels, all multiplied by 2. Levels replayability is a huge factor for those who aim to complete 100% of the game. To have fun playing SMBF you need to be open to the “repeat till perfectly done” gameplay style. Step 2: Graphics & Sound Watch 5 to 10 minutes of any video below.

Super Meat Boy Forever might not be the game I expected, but it’s a game I thoroughly enjoyed. Good sequels take the best elements of the first game and build on them. The gameplay doesn’t have to be exactly the same but in this case, it’s familiar enough, while adding many interesting new elements. The new high definition art style is on point and the level design and generation makes the sequel truly stand out. One of the designers said he wanted something that could be played forever, hence the name, and when I heard this I was worried that this might be the last entry in the series; however, thankfully the cut scenes hint that there might be more to come. I look forward to seeing what Team Meat will do in the future, but in the meantime, I have plenty of Meat Boy content to enjoy, I think I’ll go try again to beat that warp zone backwards.Become a Patron! Super Meat Boy Forever is quite different from Super Meat Boy, but as its own game, it’s both difficult and rewarding. The bosses are the best part overall, but each level had me addicted as I progressed through the game.

Super Meat Boy Forever will frustrate you; there’s no doubt about it. But that’s part of its draw. Just as games like Cuphead have an audience, the Super Meat Boy franchise has a slightly less masochistic one. Super Meat Boy Forever’s intention isn’t to deride you for playing.

Super Meat Boy Forever is clearly a lovingly designed sequel to the original hard as nails platformer. It takes on a new genre but still retains some familiar beats to keep players coming back for more. It might not be the sequel some fans were waiting for, but on its own, it’s an addictingly well-designed platformer for a modest price. This post may contain Amazon affiliate links.

Like Super Meat Boy, this title is bold and experimental and while Super Meat Boy Forever’s genre does differ, the game manages to hold onto most of what made the last game so compelling to begin with. This isn’t really a surprise, though.
