CRITIK
Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars is the fourth computer game in the Cossacks series of real-time strategy games, released in Spring 2005 to mixed reviews.[1] This game focuses exclusively on the Napoleonic era, meaning it has a much shorter time span than others in this series, which spanned several centuries. Therefore, fewer technologies can be researched than in other Cossacks games, and there aren't as many different unit types for each country as before. On the other hand, Cossacks II allows a large number of units to be trained and it has many tactical options and an updated graphical engine.

Using diplomacy as the first line for your empire expansion adds a nice twist to the usual RTS. There is also the resource demands of an army in the field, as Napoleon himself said An Army marches on its stomach well, not only do you have food to supply, but ammunition and other resources as well.

I would go so far as to say that this game has the best micromanagement system in any RTS. The options were sufficient to attract gamers from a fairly wide spectrum, and the graphics, considering the scale of the game, were incredible. Gameplay: 8.0 Pro: Micromanagement is more fun than ever before. Con: Although realistic enough, the inaccuracy of the cannons and some other units is impossibly frustrating. Technical: 9.0 Pro: Absolutely beautiful graphics for the scale of the game. Con: Some peculiar memory errors caused me to crash a couple of times. Entertainment: 8.0 Pro: There is endless fun in amassing troops and marching legions of soldiers into enemy territory. Con: Specifically cavalry, but some other units as well, could use a little extra bang for their buck. Overall: 8.0 This is definitely a good game all around, although the majority of the fun stems from watching in awe as you march hundreds of troops around.

Fans of the Napoleonic period will get a rise out of Cossacks II, as will strategy buffs seeking out something a little different from the usual tank rush tactics. It's a terrific simulation of the age of "gentlemanly" combat, during which Napoleon almost took over the world.
