Curious Expedition 2 offers such a satisfying level of strategic decision-making and replay value within the confines of a totally unique gameplay loop that it’s easily one of the most cerebrally enjoyable games I’ve ever played.

At times Curious Expedition 2 feels like a storytelling generator, an algorithm for creating wacky combinations of moments. That’s absolutely the recommendation that it sounds like. Curious Expedition 2 is a sequel to Curious Expedition, a curio that launched on Xbox back in 2020 that we liked but eventually sank into a swamp of repetition.

For what looks like a simple game Curious Expedition 2 is far from it. There is much to wrap your head around from the start to plan everything you need into a limited inventory and hope you survive. But if you give the game enough time it becomes much easier to manage and you will find yourself wanting to explore more and take more risks. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would and I think it’s definitely worth a playthrough.Become a Patron! This game was reviewed based on Xbox One review code, using an Xbox Series S|X console.

Curious Expedition 2 manages to tread a difficult path in both its gameplay and its narrative and worldbuilding. It's a game that's a fascinating adventure that forces difficult choices and hair-raising gambles, set in a thematically intriguing world that brushes with some of the horrors of imperialism. Curious Expedition 2 is definitely a game worth exploring for anyone who finds grinding strategy or rewarding roguelike gameplay compelling.
