DC's Justice League: Cosmic Chaos

Again, it’d be nice if Justice League: Cosmic Chaos allowed you to play through that story with a friend (or, better still, a son/daughter/niece/nephew just getting into gaming), but even as a solo experience, this is a surprisingly good time.

In virtually every way, Justice League: Cosmic Chaos displays a clear sense of love for the DC Universe — not some dreary Elseworlds version for adults or a neutered version for pint-sized fans, but the cartoony and heartfelt DC Universe as it often is. Once you get past whatever internal bias you have about the all-ages exterior, Cosmic Chaos delivers a fleshed-out and genuinely entertaining take on its heroes and villains. It might not reinvent the entire realm of superhero video games, but Cosmic Chaos is easily the biggest pleasant surprise I've encountered in a while. Embrace the jokes, revel in the puns, and do all you can in order to stop Starro’s horrifying plot while keeping Superman’s annoyance to a minimum. Heck, maybe even do all that in the order its written. Above all else, enjoy your stay in Happy Harbor. In a world that always strives to go bigger, it’s more of an escape to remember when superheroes got to be silly too.

If you’re looking for a DC superhero game that relies more on arcadey gameplay, whimsical callbacks, and a playful atmosphere, Justice League Cosmic Chaos is incredible. I had a great time playing through this, both by myself roaming around Happy Harbor trying to save the day while getting distracted by side quests and in co-op with my kid in the smart Instant Action mode. With the bar raised for future games from Outright Games, here’s hoping that Cosmic Chaos is the start of a new era for kid-oriented licensed games.

DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is a delightful and fun super hero adventure that both older and younger players can enjoy. It has some witty writing, fun combat, and enjoyable exploration although all of this would’ve been better if you could play the campaign in co-op and had a bigger roster of playable characters. Still though, out of all of the games from Outright Games that I’ve played this one was the most enjoyable and DC fans looking for something a little different should give it a look. *DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Thanks to the sheer amount of combat, DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos can feel a little repetitive at times. We can’t deny, though, that this is a game that has surpassed our expectations. It proves that games for kids can be accessible yet have enough depth for all to enjoy them. And so no matter what your age, if you’re an ardent DC fan or simply love action RPGs, there’s something for you here. You might even crack a smile or two at the game’s silly humour.
