With a story that is cheekily woven into the gameplay, rock solid action, air-tight controls to compliment an amazing gallery of enemies, level design, and weapons; Dusk has it all. The only problem with Dusk is the craven sensation felt when the game ends. There are few horror themed shooters that have the unbelievable rush that Dusk offers. Dusk was reviewed on Nintendo Switch using a copy provided by New Blood.

Dusk captures the essence of those 90s shooters you grew up playing and adds enough new to not only set itself apart, but also stand toe-to-toe with those giants.

It is a devilish delight to navigate Dusk’s hellish environments and labyrinth-like levels, all whilst laying waste to its army of twisted enemies with its second to none gunplay. Not only is this title a fitting tribute to the games that inspired it, but it’s also something that manages to feel entirely relevant to the modern era due to its impeccable gameplay and emphasis on providing a simple but intriguing story. So if you are in any way nostalgic for retro FPS experiences, or for that matter, just a lover of FPS games in general, then do yourself a favor and check out Dusk on the Switch.

DUSK is a devilishly good game. It will frustrate you, yes, but that’s the point. The game wants you to claw at victory and feel as though you’ve actually accomplished something when you obtain it. Plus, DUSK features multiple difficulties if you want to squeeze even more out of the game, including Duskmare, where every attack turns into a one-hit KO.

DUSK achieves something that seemed out of reach until now, as it surpasses its inspirations in every way, not only standing shoulder to shoulder with the giants of the genre, but even going beyond that, and creating an adventure that must be experienced by any FPS fan worth their salt. So, to answer the two questions I asked in the introductory paragraph to this review, the perfect game exists, and it’s this one.
