Earth Defense Force 6 is the sixth main entry in the Earth Defense Force series and the direct sequel to Earth Defense Force 5, picking up three years after that game left off. EDF 6 is set on a dying Earth where the alien Primer civilization invades once again.

Earth Defense Force 6 is an over-the-top game that retains its defining elements while adding something new to the experience. It’s one of those games you play knowing it will feel like a B-film. You have to appreciate the action, replay value, and how openly it displays its inspirations.

Earth Defense Force 6 is the series at its best. Taken together, the engaging narrative, expanded enemies and locales, and class changes push EDF 6 to new heights. With the most content of any EDF game to get through, I can easily recommend picking the game up. I’ve spent 44 hours with the game so far, and I’ll easily spend a few hundred more playing through the campaign again, alone and with friends, multiple times over. The fun never stops. Earth Defense Force 6 is big, dumb co-op fun and a masterclass in asset recycling. Earth Defense Force 6 is one of the most joyful shooters I’ve played in years, delivering mega-scale slapstick gunfights like nothing else while walking a tightrope-fine line between genius and idiocy in its design.

EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is an evolution and successor to EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 5 both in gameplay and as a game. There’s so many quality of life improvements, more missions, a far more intriguing storyline, and the best enemy variety the series has ever seen. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is a triumph of mindless fun. It delivers everything fans of the series have come to expect and more. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it refines the formula to near-perfection. With its over-the-top action and addictive replayable gameplay, EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is a must-have.

Earth Defense Force 6 brings the series back and better than ever. It offers the same bug-smashing action with a time travel twist in the tale. Classes remain as satisfying as ever and multiplayer spreads the joy. Don’t go in expecting a graphical powerhouse, though.
