With seven environment types, limited enemy variety, samey-looking levels, and no multiplayer modes, HYPERGUN starts to feel repetitive after a few runs. Players who wish to extend their time with the game can try to find the lore pieces scattered around in the “real world” or unlock all the playable characters or gun modifications, but in the end, with the way the game is structured right now, there isn’t enough content to go past the twenty hours mark without feeling a little bit bored.

Hypergun is an entertaining shooter best enjoyed over short bursts. While there’s a seemingly endless variety of creatable weapons, grinding run after run gets old fast. Like DevTech’s inability to make the perfect superweapon, Hypergun lacks the punch and polish needed to elevate the game to greatness.

There is a lot to like about HYPERGUN. While the distinct visuals and sound track only run skin deep, there is a real excitement and allure of unlocking rare weapon attachments and it did help me to push through the more frustrating aspects of the game. The developers have succeeded in ensuring the player is accompanied by a refreshing weapon with it’s own feel and personality in each simulation run.
