Kunai bears the classic signs of a metroidvania with a ninja, retro-futuristic flair. Find upgrades and secret treasure stashes, fight robots, and well-designed bosses, all while having a ton of fun doing so. For - Excellent design - Fun combat and exploration - Good soundtrack - Unique visual style Against - Keyboard controls feel awkward What I liked about Kunai Finally, I get to talk about how much I like this game.

Kunai does so much with so little. From the minimalist art style to the polished grappling mechanic, it’s hard not to recommend this entry to fans of the metroidvania genre, or anyone looking for a fresh offering on the Nintendo Switch.

Kunai is a thoroughly fantastic game, taking some of the best elements of the genre and putting them into one parkouring package. It’s apparent that a lot of care went into fine-tuning weapons and Kunai to make your actions feel as instinctual as they are fun. Kunai is one of the most unexpected and delightful gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time. Noisy Pixel gives Kunai a 9 out of 10 This post may contain Amazon affiliate links.

From the opening moments to the end credits, everything about Kunai just oozes charm and its movement mechanics make it a joy to play. An absolute must-play.

The silky animation, refined control scheme, and creative options for decimating your foes presents a highly polished metroidvania with wide appeal. There's a specific late-game city area which feels like the best application of its strengths—if there are any significant criticisms to angle here, it’s only that the game really reaches its full potential right before its over.

Kunai is the next great Metroidvania on Switch. It could easily stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Ori and the Blind Forest and The Messenger, especially in how effortless moving around and traversing the world is. This is as close to a must-play as I can recommend. You're a tablet who plays like Spider-Man, and everything looks beautiful. Kunai is excellent.
