Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - Episode 2: Under Pressure
The Guardians just can’t seem to outrun the past (or their tab), but if they figure out how to control the untold power of their mysterious new relic, they might not have to. With help from dubious old friends and unwilling new allies, Star-Lord and company scour the galaxy for answers. But how long can they elude the genocidal maniac hunting them? Overall, Episode 2: Under Pressure is one of the finest Telltale installments in years. It still suffers from the same animation problems as all of Telltale’s works, but the writing, characters and plot are all on point for a fantastic episode. Let’s hope they can keep it up for next time.

Under Pressure veers away from the main story of TellTale’s Guardians to focus on Rocket Raccoon’s backstory, with surprisingly poignant and successful results. TellTale’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Episode 2 – Under Pressure Developer: TellTale Games Price: $24.99 for the Season Pass Platforms: PS4 (reviewed), Xbox One, PC, Mac, Android, iOS MonsterVine was provided with a PS4 code for review. As a comic book fan, the mention of Half-World near the beginning of Episode 2 – Under Pressure got me excited.

This episode has a good flow and tempo, with lots of visually appealing cutscenes and action to break up the story, and while it reaches the end without feeling rushed, the cliffhanger feels a bit out of place. Although the cliffhanger allows Telltale a huge opportunity with a multitude of story branches to choose from, the ending just doesn’t fit the episode very well at all.

Under Pressure keeps the story flowing and the jams pumping as Telltale provides a rare look at one of the Guardians’ upbringings. The hit-or-miss humor and standard technical malfunctions are still on full display, but the strong storytelling helps keep the season moving forward as the dysfunctional space crew keep searching for answers.

Episode two is a bloody good continuation of the Guardians of the Galaxy adventures, with genuine laughter, plenty of happiness and occasional sadness to be had. There’s a well balanced variety to it, from start to finish, of Quick Time Event scenes, heart to hearts and general comradery.

While I’m not convinced it’ll ultimately live up to Rhys, Fiona and Loaderbot’s escapades (my own personal favorite series), for sheer enjoyment, it’s shaping up to come mighty close.
