Overview

The game puts the player in the role of Pvt. Thomas Conlin, a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II. The game opens up on Conlin, about to land on Tarawa in a landing craft. His voice-over reminisces about how much of a journey it was to arrive there, commenting on the friends he's lost, the untrained quality of the new-recruits ("three week wonders", he calls them) and the futility of taking this small stretch of land from the Japanese.

The incredible graphics and storyline combined with destructible objects create a powerful cinematic feel that completely draws the player in. Aside from a few minor gripes, including a short single player campaign, this is a definite must-have for fans of the series and anyone who enjoys WWII first-person shooters. Pros and Cons + Spectacular Graphics + Incredible sound effects and music + Excellent cinematic feel + Historical timeline + Destructible objects in the environment + More reliance on squad + Great extra behind the scenes and historical features on DVD +/- Training can't be skipped, and initially slows the pace of the game +/- The pop-up facts are a nice idea, but not implemented well enough +/- Single player campaign is pretty short - Noticeably long load times Bottom Line The Medal of Honor series has established itself as one of the best WWII-themed shooters on the market, and Pacific Assault doesn't disappoint.

There are a few places where the game falls short (drivable vehicles would have been nice), but excellent A.I., solid gameplay, and fairly deep multiplayer battles make Pacific Assault worthy of the Medal of Honor name.

What this FPS game lacks in antagonistic aliens and demons from hell, it more than makes up with good old-fashioned gunplay and an unbeatable theatric presentation.

It is an engaging experience from the beginning through its conclusion, and the many difficulty levels and online support really bring up its replay value.
