Overall, MilitAnt is a worthwhile way to spend a few hours, despite the small trophy list, as it offers an unusual take on side-scrolling, shooting and platforming. There are occasional difficulty spikes and some areas do feel a little unfair, but the majority of the gameplay is fast-paced and enjoyable.

With so much potential in the premise, it’s a shame MilitAnt didn’t deliver where it counts in the gameplay department. Annoying A.I. and frustrating combat mechanics make for a tough recommendation even for the biggest fans of action platformers.

Any torture platformer will unavoidably frustrate, but a good example of the genre will keep the player hooked through responsive and addictive gameplay and a desire to improve. Sadly, that's not the case here.

The Bug's Life meets Contra premise of MilitAnt is promising, but unfortunately the experience is marred by questionable design decisions and an unreliable targeting system.
