Overview

Nuclear Blaze is a 2D firefighting game from the creator of Dead Cells, with all the devastating backdrafts, exploding walls and sprinklers you could expect. Fight your way through a mysterious facility and try to keep the blaze under control. As a trained firefighter, you're being air-dropped right in the middle of this hell blaze to investigate and look for survivors. But the unexpected presence of an unknown military facility might somewhat affect your plans. Using only your fire hose and your skills, you try to clear all fires in each area. But that won't be an easy task: wildfire will spread around you, and even just opening a door might become a serious threat if not planned carefully. But Nuclear Blaze isn't only about firefighting: the world is packed with secrets, story bits and... cats to save!

Even though Nuclear Blaze is a short game, it is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game and the challenge it gave me at certain points. Congratulations to Sébastien at Deepnight Games for creating such a masterpiece as the debut game from his new studio. I will leave you with the reveal trailer below and of course, Nuclear Blaze has earned the highly deserved Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

I really liked Nuclear Blaze. On its surface, it seems like a pretty standard platformer. But this is a game that doesn’t waste the player’s time. There was never a moment where I felt bored or felt the mechanics had outstayed their welcome. The game’s pace feels spot-on, keeping levels tight to the point and adding new abilities at the right spot. Even the difficulty is just the right challenge to keep you hooked without becoming overly frustrating. This was a game I didn’t want to put down. It set my heart ablaze, and I could not recommend it enough for all audiences.

Nuclear Blaze is an absolute joy to play, be it taking it easy on Kid Mode or working through the 2 hour campaign on one of the multiple difficulty modes. The action and level progression is almost perfectly paced, it looks stunning, and only very, very rarely did we encounter a moment where we had anything less than great fun extinguishing flames. This game was reviewed based on Xbox S|X review code, using an Xbox S|X console.

A creative take on a puzzle platforming adventure that’s challenging but fair, and has plenty of secrets to discover along the way Among the qualities I’m most often seeking in games are some originality and delivering an experience I haven’t had before.

I really enjoyed Nuclear Blaze, a lot more than I could have ever imagined at first. Despite not being exactly a new release (it was originally launched on Steam nearly two years ago), it feels at home on the Switch. This brand new release on consoles is the perfect opportunity to check it out and give it a go. By and large, it’s already deeply enjoyable on a basic first run, but things get a lot more challenging and engaging once unlocking the “Hold My Beer” mode. You will shout at the game, but won’t be able to put it down.

Nuclear Blaze is an absolute blast. The 2D platforming and fire-based puzzles keep you on your toes while unraveling a mystery. There’s something satisfying about clearing a room of flames, not to mention rescuing cute kittens. Despite its short runtime, this one comes highly recommended.

Nuclear Blaze is a brisk experience, but one that will give just enough timing and puzzle challenges to keep you engaged through the entire run. Its simplicity is its strength, focusing on the action first and foremost and using those limited toolsets to approach each flame. An impressive approach to difficulty and an appropriate amount of mystery puts this game into a neat package that is approachable and as challenging as you’d prefer. Nuclear Blaze is short, sweet, and definitely worth a look.
