I’ve missed having a good golf sim and PGA Tour 2K23 is indeed a good golf sim, part of me would have like a skip button as well/instead of the speed up button so that you could get straight to your next shot rather than having to watch your shot from start to finish… but that’s nit picking and not essential. Once you get over the initial hurdle of getting used to the controls it starts to become a more relaxing experience… but not so calm that you won’t find yourself occasionally shanking your shot into the water or slicing into a bunker. Ultimately though it’s a fun way to spend some time in virtual nature.

PGA TOUR 2K23 doesn’t hit you with a shipload of content, but with some of the best gameplay ever in a golf game along with returning features like MyCAREER, Societies, Quick Match, and the course designer as well as the addition of Topgolf and the new MyPLAYER Archetype/Skill system, there’s plenty of replay value at the virtual links. A copy of this game was provided to App Trigger for the purpose of this review.

While it’s very true I have a soft spot in my heart for PGA Tour accordingly, there’s no denying 2K23 is solid. Small improvements to an existing formula mightn’t be looked highly upon in a yearly cycle, but PGA Tour 2K23 gets away with it because of its cadence. Welcome back, old friend. 3 click for life. PGA Tour 2K23 heads to Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 on 14 October. In the end, PGA 2K23 isn’t a revolution. It is however a wonderfully thought-out and considered upgrade from the previous title. Every aspect of the career mode has been tweaked and improved, the gameplay, while much the same, has been tightened where it needs to be and the presentation aspects have come forward in leaps and bounds. I know there isn’t exactly a lot of choice at the moment when it comes to serious golf titles (though that is changing with EA apparently getting back into the game next year) but that isn’t a massive problem when the only contender for the title is this good.

PGA TOUR 2K23 surely transcends its predecessor. It has maintained the realism, has stretched it further by implementing many more, and has done well to make the game fluid and flexible overall. Although, MyCareer has seemingly omitted from the required quality needed to be worthy of playing for the long term. However, the developer has somewhat lived up to their promise and delivered the most authentic golfing experience for a player.
