If ProtoCorgi was merely a cute ’em up with decent controls, that would have already been enough to make me recommend it to fans of shooters in general. It’s just that good. Thankfully, there’s more to it than just adorable pups with fricking lasers. The inclusion of a level editor makes it stand out from its peers. It’s not the most intuitive of editors, but I’m sure someone else will get a hold of it and exponentially extend this game’s lasting appeal. And for the minuscule price being asked for the complete package, ProtoCorgi is a no-brainer.

Overall, ProtoCorgi is a fun shooter that’s deceptively difficult. The builder mode adds some longevity, especially at its budget price. The retro cartoony design is also great, creating an overall enjoyable shooter that stands out from the crowd. I enjoyed ProtoCorgi, and I think there’s a solid chance many of you will have an even better time with it. It has a solid presentation, almost all of the options you would want in a shooter plus a few more, and a cute premise. Throw in a very competitive price and it’s an easy shooter to recommend. Just keep in mind the usual rule about cute-em-ups: just because it looks fluffy, it doesn’t mean it’s easy. Inexperienced shooter fans may want to approach cautiously, but shooter fans should have a barking good time. SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 Dr.

Absolutely bringing a mix of classic side-scrolling shooting and cuteness to the mix, ProtoCorgi has some issues but makes for a good time Mixing together two things I love, old-school arcade-style shooting and a cute pupper, on paper ProtoCorgi comes out of the gate strongly feeling like something I should love.

Overall, ProtoCorgi is a good game – it controls well and has style galore, which are both key parts of a good shoot ‘em up. Unfortunately, one level with seriously questionable design decisions keeps this from winning Best of Show. Rating: 5.5 out of 10 Disclosures: This game is developed by Kemono Games and published by Ravenscourt.
