The Great Perhaps will take you roughly three hours or so to finish, and it’s certainly possible to conclude it in one sitting. The puzzles can get tricky and you will need to experiment with the clues you find in both worlds in order to find success. But when you do find the solutions the feeling is hugely rewarding, and this in turn ensures that the journey is never frustrating.

The Great Perhaps does not offer anything that we haven’t seen before in its gameplay, but there is an understated beauty in its presentation that I found haunting (literally … you’ll see). The trial-and-error nature of some of its puzzles may cause you to reach for a bottle of Vodka in frustration, but its world has a certain sad and subdued charm that will, in both past and present, motivate you to keep trudging along in order to save it.

The Great Perhaps uses cute puzzles to explore the before and after of humanity’s time on Earth, with a melancholy atmosphere that reaches for, but doesn’t quite grasp, the profound.

At its full launch price, The Great Perhaps is hard to recommend. The story feels jumbled, even for such a short game. The puzzles are bland, and the game has some frustrating mechanics.
