What Comes After is an inspiringly told portrayal of the beauty of life. It perfectly balances discussions about suicide, the trials and tribulations of life and the meaning of it all with a detailed and stylised art style that oozes warmth and joy. It never trivialises the subjects it's referring to but instead approaches it all with the respect, warmth, and love they deserve.

What What Comes After lacks in length, it more than makes up for with engaging character dialogue and a willingness to discuss lofty themes in a balanced and emotional way. This is a visual novel worth flicking through.

For an hour’s worth of emotional, important gameplay at the price of a cup of coffee, What Comes After is a must-play for anyone who needs to be reminded that life is worth living. That they’re not a burden on their loved ones. That others are praying for their health and happiness. That other souls depend on them. That they have redeeming qualities. That it’s okay to not be okay. To just breathe. If you are not currently suicidal, please consider picking up What Comes After to hear these powerfully reaffirming messages — the words we’ve needed to hear after a harrowing year.

What Comes After is a short narrative experience that doesn’t ask much from the player but has a lot to offer in return. Its playtime may not run long, but the effect it had on me lingered for far longer. *Disclaimer: Reviewed on Nintendo Switch.

From the creators of Coffee Talk comes What Comes After, swapping coffee for ghosts, this heart-warming tale captured me from the get-go. But, is it a game you should dive into? Let me tell you. Spoopy but not Spoopy I’m going to call What Comes After more of an experience than a game due to its nature and length, but we will talk more about that a little later. What Comes After is a beautiful experience featuring Vivi, a girl on a journey to find herself.

While it doesn’t flesh out its premise to its fullest potential, What Comes After is a poignant look at how one views the afterlife. With emotional dialogue and a nice narrative structure, this is worth your $4.99.
