Overview

Recalling the genre's 64-bit heyday, this is wrestling that puts the fun first - filling the ring with as many wrestlers as you can handle and letting them loose with freestyle animation where anything could happen at any moment. Design matches before your very eyes with the intuitive setup process, and tag in up to 4 controllers at ANY time for old school multiplayer! Or create your own star and embark on a career to encounter up to 350 opponents across 10 different rosters in an endless schedule of possibilities. Make the right moves backstage as well as in the ring to fight for your worth and retire with a career worth remembering. Just when you think you've seen it all, you can even save your changes to each character to make the world your own and never get bored of wrestling again! • Epic universe of 350 characters across 10 different rosters - and up to 30 of them in the ring loaded instantly! • Gaming's most engrossing simulation of life as a wrestler - from contract negotiations to weekly news reports. • Door-to-door interactivity trusts you to make your own entrance AND walk back through the curtain. • Unique animation system allows any move to transition into any other at any moment for mind-blowing spots that you'll want to catch on camera! • Enjoy the action from different camera angles to suit any playing style. • Interactive tutorial makes wrestling easy to play yet satisfying to master. • Design matches & arenas before your very eyes with the most intuitive setup process in wrestling. • Tag in up to 4 friends at ANY time for old school multiplayer on the same screen. • Own once and forever with no micro-transactions or added costs - even as the concept continues to evolve.

To be sure, it’s not perfect, and to enjoy Wrestling Empire you need to be willing to overlook a lot. Provided you can do that, however, you’ll find that you’ve got one of the most enjoyable wrestling games in years at your fingertips.

When is a Wrestling Game Not a Wrestling Game? The answer is when you’re playing Wrestling Empire. This game is unlike anything I have ever played before. Created by a single developer MDickie, this game is a strange testament to what can be achieved, while at the same time being an absolutely bizarre and unpredictable experience. Yes, it is a wrestling game.

Wrestling Empire is the video game equivalent of Paul Heyman-era ECW. It's low-budget, it's extremely rough and it's often difficult to watch, but there's a clear passion for pro wrestling underneath it and we're sure it'll develop a hardcore following of fans who love it in spite of its many, many flaws.

Wrestling Empire is repetitive and its lack of online multiplayer is disappointing. However, it has one of the deepest rosters in the history of wrestling games, and despite modeling itself after a game that's over 20 years old, still manages to perform better than some modern day wrestling games that have much bigger budgets. If nothing else, it's something to keep pro wrestling fans busy while they wait for the next WWE 2K or the upcoming AEW video game. Wrestling Empire is out now for PC and Switch.

It is kind of impressive that one person was able to create a Switch wrestling game that runs well part of the time when two teams at a major pub couldn’t even pull that off. However, Wrestling Empire isn’t quite “so bad it’s good” territory, nor is it the worst. It’s basically the small indie wrestling company bringing in a guy with TV exposure to sell tickets. And with more competition coming in the short and hopefully longer terms for Switch wrestling games, it’ll be one of those “Oh yeah, that happened” games in short order.

Wrestling Empire offers the career mode most wrestling fans are hoping for from a WWE game, but the standard of action inside the ring lets it down. Not quite ‘so bad it’s good’, the wrestling action is just frustrating to play.
