Critics rave about the light-hearted and humorous story of Cat Quest III, praising its puns, charming characters, and witty writing. Most reviewers highlight the delightful narrative, character development, and pirate-themed adventure, with only one critic feeling the story lacks depth. Overall, critics agree that the engaging storytelling immerses players in a fun-filled feline quest for treasure in the Purribean.

The critics generally praise the story of Cat Quest III for its light-hearted and humorous tone, filled with puns, charming names, and witty writing. CGMagazine and Nintendo Life specifically highlight the delightful and loveable aspects of the narrative, with Nintendo Life mentioning optional conversations that add depth to the world and characters. Xbox Tavern and ZTGD appreciate the depth in character development and the pirate-themed adventure surrounding the quest for the North Star Treasure in the Purribean. Twinfinite also commends the simple yet effective storytelling that progresses smoothly from point A to B, featuring memorable characters and heartwarming interactions. On the other hand, Checkpoint Gaming stands out as the sole critic who feels that the narrative takes a backseat in Cat Quest III, lacking depth and complexity. While the lush sandbox environment is acknowledged, the focus on exploration seems to overshadow the storytelling aspect for this reviewer. This perspective contrasts with the majority of critics who find the story engaging and filled with enough humor and charm to drive the player's experience. Overall, the consensus among the critics leans heavily towards the positive side regarding the story of Cat Quest III. The majority appreciate the light-hearted and humorous nature of the narrative, the witty writing, and the memorable characters. While there is a minor dissenting opinion from Checkpoint Gaming regarding the depth of the story, the overall sentiment suggests that the storytelling in Cat Quest III successfully immerses players in a swashbuckling adventure filled with cat puns, charming interactions, and an engaging quest for treasure in the Purribean.

Critics rave about Cat Quest III's engaging combat, diverse weapons, and deep character progression, with praise for its smooth co-op play. While some found dungeon variety lacking, the overall consensus is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the game's satisfying mix of action, exploration, and progression.

The majority of critics praised the gameplay of Cat Quest III, highlighting its positive aspects. CGMagazine commended the game for offering a variety of weapons with different moves, challenging enemies, and deep combat mechanics. Xbox Tavern appreciated the simple yet engaging combat, focusing on weapon synergies and magic spells, as well as the two leveling systems that added depth to character progression. Nintendo Life particularly enjoyed the exemplary combat with tight and fluid mechanics, diverse enemies and bosses, extensive weapon and armor customization options, and the drop-in/drop-out co-op functionality. Checkpoint Gaming also lauded the game for its variety of gameplay elements, smooth co-op experience, and quality-of-life additions. However, some critics pointed out certain negatives regarding the gameplay of Cat Quest III. Xbox Tavern mentioned that while open world exploration was excellent, dungeon variety was lacking, which could potentially impact the overall experience for players seeking more diverse challenges. Twinfinite noted that while the combat system was basic, the ramping up of difficulty required strategy and tactics, suggesting that some players might find the initial stages of the game less engaging compared to later stages. Overall, the consensus among the critics is overwhelmingly positive regarding the gameplay of Cat Quest III. The game was praised for its engaging combat mechanics, variety of weapons, character progression depth, exploration opportunities, and co-op functionality. Despite some minor criticisms regarding dungeon variety and initial combat simplicity, the majority of critics found the gameplay experience to be very good, indicating that Cat Quest III offers a satisfying and enjoyable gaming experience for players looking for a mix of action, exploration, and character progression.

Cat Quest III impresses critics with its abundant content, engaging gameplay, and new game+ mode for extended play. Reviewers praise its balanced difficulty, diverse build options, and local co-op feature, enhancing replay value. While lacking innovation, the game's strong points outweigh this criticism. Overall, Cat Quest III offers a rich and enjoyable replay experience, making it a top choice for gamers seeking lasting entertainment.

The reviewers unanimously praised the Replay Value of Cat Quest III for its abundance of content and engaging gameplay elements. CGMagazine highlighted the inclusion of a new game+ mode, offering continued play beyond the initial 12-hour adventure, while Xbox Tavern appreciated the game's balance for players of all skill levels and the late-game content for experienced players. ZTGD also noted the numerous side quests, bounties, and legendary enemies that keep players engaged, with the local co-op option further enhancing the replay value, as mentioned by both Xbox Tavern and ZTGD. Checkpoint Gaming and Twinfinite commended the game for its diverse build potentials, enjoyable couch co-op play, exploration opportunities, and content-rich gameplay, all contributing to a positive replay experience. On the flip side, while most critics had glowing reviews of Cat Quest III's Replay Value, Nintendo Life pointed out a potential downside. They mentioned that the game, despite offering a well-designed open world with smooth progression, engaging puzzles, and satisfying quests, lacked innovation and failed to introduce many new ideas for the genre or the series. This lack of innovation could potentially lead to a sense of repetitiveness for players looking for fresh gameplay mechanics or unique features in a sequel. Overall, the consensus among the critics is overwhelmingly positive regarding the Replay Value of Cat Quest III. The game's extensive content, engaging gameplay elements, diverse build potentials, and local co-op option were highlighted as major strengths by multiple reviewers, such as Xbox Tavern, ZTGD, Checkpoint Gaming, and Twinfinite. While Nintendo Life's critique on the lack of innovation is noted, it is clear that the majority of critics found the game to be highly enjoyable and offering a rewarding replay experience for players of all skill levels. Cat Quest III seems to have successfully captured the essence of a captivating and replayable gaming experience, making it a recommended choice for fans of the genre.

What more is there to say? If you’ve played the previous games and enjoyed them, you can expect more of the same great stuff here. If you’ve not played Cat Quest I or II, this can be a great place to jump in. Thanks to how the story has unfolded across the 3 games there’s no set linearity to the events. Therefore they can be played and enjoyed in any order. I can’t wait to see what The Gentlebros cook up next for The Apawcalypse.
