Overview

World War II Combat: Iwo Jima is a budget-priced first-person shooter developed by Direct Action Games and published by Groove Games. Like its predecessor, World War II Combat: Road to Berlin, it received extremely negative reviews from reviewers and users alike. It suffered from many of the same problems of the first game.

The game's short levels are made longer by the lack of a save feature. There's only one checkpoint per level and no health pickups anywhere; this kind of artificial difficulty gives nothing to the player but more frustration. Iwo Jima looks and plays like a tech demonstration from a couple of gifted grade-schoolers, with deplorable graphics, clunky controls, and completely unimaginative level design.

I have had experience with numerous World War II games and this game seems to be the most unplayable version of all. The observation herewith may be too biased because of my previous experience with other World War II games, if you wish to play it anyway, I will not stop you from doing so. The developers of course did not want this game to end at the bottom list of all interactive games, therefore, if you find the game to be worth playing, send me an e-mail and I will try and review it again. Top of game moment: Well, it could be the initial part of the game because I have not seen the rest.

Story Background: Written during somebody’s 5 minute smoke break. = 1. Gameplay: 2. Graphics: 2. Sound: Some of the music in the background was quite nice, but totally inappropriate for a war game.
