Godzilla
Godzilla is a 1988 action video game for the Commodore 16 and Commodore Plus/4 developed by Attila Cosir and distributed by Novotrade and then re-released by DELTASoft. It is a simple, endless game of avoiding taking hits from obstacles and enemies in a scrolling field. The first level introduces ground spikes, which can be jumped over. The second level introduces a UFO-like object that flies toward Godzilla's head, which can be eaten. The third level introduces a giant bee that heads toward the back of Godzilla's head, and is defeated by using fire breath. Finally, the fourth level introduces a space shuttle-like object that cruises on the ground, which can be jumped over. Godzilla has 6 lives, and once they're gone the player has to start over. The game awards points for keeping Godzilla alive, however it doesn't keep track of high scores. The game itself is completely silent, save for a brief voice sample when the game is started, and a loud, static-filled roar that Godzilla utters whenever he gets hit by an object.

So while Godzilla might be an average game in many ways, it’s also a very faithful Godzilla experience, and one that fans and will treasure having in their collection.

Despite any shortcomings it may have, Godzilla is a fantastically fun game for anyone who just wants to play as a radioactive monster causing havoc while fighting off humans and other creatures. The overall presentation is very cinematic and really recreates the feeling that long-time series fans will be looking for, making it well worth a go - but some people may want to wait for a price drop first.

Godzilla has laid many eggs in gaming, and this is another one. Other than the presentation, Godzilla doesn’t do anything perfectly. This game at least nails the look and sounds of Godzilla, but the experience simply isn’t an enjoyable one.

There is only so far you can take a game titled Godzilla. After the fun of smashing up buildings and flinging helicopters soon wears off, you begin to find yourself with a mediocre title that becomes repetitive at best. That said, for gamers with those requirements and a love for Godzilla, you should definitely try out this year's entry.

Godzilla provides an experience soaked in nostalgia that simply isn't fun to play after putting in time with it. Sure, hearing the roars, tearing through towns and beating up on Rodan were entertaining for the first few minutes, but it all goes downhill quite quickly. Even for a hardcore fan of the franchise and Kaiju flicks in general, I found myself just being frustrated and bored with such mundane gameplay.
