Overview

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It offers players new sneaking and traversal methods compared to its predecessors, as well as the choice in what order the story events take place by selecting missions by advance. The most important change for this title is the shift to an open world design with a real-time day and night cycle doing away with the linear mission approach of previous games. The game was originally developed as a mission for The Phantom Pain, but an extended development time resulted in director Hideo Kojima splitting the specific portion of the game as a stand-alone product so that players could get early access to Metal Gear Solid V.

The game is excellent and worth picking up, despite the price tag and the availability of DLC for other games.

The game is praised as a masterpiece and sets high expectations for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The PC version is recommended for its superior visuals, but the menu controls are limited to keyboard only.

The review overall praises the game, stating that it combines tense stealth and best-in-class cutscene direction. It mentions that the story may conclude sooner than expected, but that the gameplay-driven experience, graphics, voice acting, and replay value make it a thrilling experience that shouldn't be missed.

Despite the initial bad deal, the game makes up for it with its side content. It looks gorgeous and plays great, and if it is indicative of what The Phantom Pain offers, there are good reasons to anticipate Snake's next full outing.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes delivers a solid package for fans of the series. While the main mission's brevity may turn off some, hardcore MGS fans will find plenty to do for the price. The ending is better than most full-priced titles.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a good game, visually impressive, and a valuable segue into Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. However, it lacks the finished polish of previous games in the series and may be short for some players.

The game is a piece of something great but falls short of something whole. It is recommended for Metal Gear fans, but not for those who have never played a Metal Gear game before.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a costly glimpse of the future. It showcases Metal Gear's new direction and will hype fans for what's to come, but its small portions may leave the curious feeling unfulfilled.
